Erdem Fall RTW 2010

Is it fair to like *every single piece* in one collection?

Rip off

Paul Smith's Autumn/Winter 2010... looks eerily like ...

...last year's Romance Was Born...

Interesting to see something-London looking like something-Sydney for once!

Step inside

Creative Space: Urban homes of artists and innovators, $31.29 @ The Book Depository

"Creative Space" looks at the studios, apartments, and homes of the designers, directors, stylists, artists, graffiti writers, curators, novelists and innovators that are pushing the boundaries of contemporary culture. These are interiors created by people who shop in Colette in Paris, live on the Lower East Side in New York and travel to Tokyo." [The Book Depository]

The Facebook Song

"Are you F**king Kidding Me" by Kate Miller-Heidke. Hilarious song... you really do have to listen here...

They say everyone should have their heart broken at least once

And that is how you grow emotionally
Well I have been misused by many, many, many men
But nothing can compare to how you treated me.

At times it really felt as though the pain was here to stay
And though it’s many years I go I feel it to this day,
And now you wanna be my friend on Facebook
Are you fucking kidding me?

All the memories are flooding back to me now
All the ways you stole the light from my eyes
I travelled so far just to get away from you
‘Til this morning’s friend request surprise!

At times it really felt as though I’d never smile again
You narcissistic arsehole, oh you nasty nasty man
And now you wanna be my friend on Facebook
Are you fucking kidding…?

I don’t care what kind of cocktail you are,
Or which member of The Beatles or which 1950s movie star
I don’t give a toss if you’re a ninja or a pirate
I suspect you’d be a pirate, but I don’t wanna verify it
And I don’t give a shit what your stripper name is
Or if your kitty had a litter
Look – Just follow me on Twitter
I don’t care about your family tree
And I certainly don’t want you poking me…
again.

And now you wanna be my friend on Facebook
Oh you fucking, fucking fuck…

Epic fail

Face Hunter book, $45 at the National Portrait Gallery, $20.34 at Book Depository

I tried to outsmart the National Portrait Gallery today, but failed. Which isn't fair because I returned an extra $10 of change their cafe had accidently given me. What ever happened to karma?

I should probably take a few steps back and explain a little. The context is a second art, wine & cheese event at the National Gallery in as many days. To avoid the Masterpieces of Paris craziness we headed next door to the National Portrait Gallery for lunch.

The NPG also has an amazing shop with posters, books, jewellery etc. I picked up this Sartorialist-style book by the Face Hunter. Actually, its eerile similar to The Sartorialist's recent book. Its about the same size and thickness, have similar street style fashion - even the text is similar. Anyway, I was about to hand over the Amex when I thought to myself - surely this book will be on Book Depository for much much less. A ha - I thought - I outsmarted them!

Turns out the Face Hunter is available on Book Depository for less than half the price actually. BUT NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL 22 MARCH 2010! Sigh. Serves me right for trying to outsmart the NPG - *shakes fist*...

Fake Sartorialist

Is imitation (or crucification) the highest form of flattery?

Have a chuckle at this blog, the Fake Sartorialist.

Australia's Abbey-Lee closes the SS 09/10 Chanel haute couture show

Yesterday I went to a free talk on Paris fashion at the National Gallery of Australia. The talk was given by Glynis Traill-Nash, Fashion Features Director at Grazia magazine to correspond with the Masterpieces of Paris exhibition.

Glynis has funky hair, spoke very well and doesn't own a Chanel 2.55 (re-issue or otherwise) or a Chanel jacket. For someone who mentioned several times that she had been to the Chanel haute couture shows in Paris at least three times I thought this was a little bit odd.

The talk focussed on the haute couture houses and was divided into three sections: Chanel, YSL & finally Lacroix. Whilst [obviously] the talk was almost entirely french focussed, Australian models Abbey Lee (see picture above) and Alexandra Agoston got brief mentions.

On the 20th of February Lucina Holdforth (author of "True Pleasures: a memoir of women in Paris") discusses "The art of living : how the women of Paris shaped the City of Light". Details are available here.
