Vintage silk

On Sunday I headed to Leura again with my Nan. After the obligatory trip to the Leura Lolly Shop (mmm Reese's peanut butter cups) we were excited to come across two new shops.

The first is Mrs Peel, run by the same couple who pioneered Zoo Emporium in Surry Hills. So I wasn't surprised to find an excellent range of well-priced, excellent quality vintage pieces. I have a particular soft spot for vintage silk scarves, and almost walked away with some vintage Dior, but it was a little blue for my liking. I ended up picking up this Oroton silk scarf to replace an old favourite which had run away. Mrs Peel's has some stock available online, but you really need to see the shop in person.

The other new shop is a gorgeous chocolate shop called Josophan's. Unfortunately Nan and I headed here after having hot chocolate at the Cafe version of Josophan's (yes, both in Leura) and a lunch that consisted of Devonshire Tea. So I can't attest to the quality of the chocolate, but it all looked quite tasty.

All in all, an excellent day and a chance to spend some quality time with my Nan. Admittedly, I think its her I miss most since moving to Canberra.

The Selby [again]

I'm waiting [impatiently] for quite a few things to arrive in the mail... one of which is this signed, limited-edition collage poster of pictures from The Selby. It was created by Sydney artist Joanthan Zawada.

Sass & Bide turns 10

Ten years for Sass & Bide shown here with Twiggy in London

Aww, now I'm feeling a tag nostalgic. I remember the good old days when every second girl at Uni sported a light blue pair of EVHs (East Village Hipsters for the uninitiated).

Good on them, I always get excited when I see Aussies on style.com. That said - they mustn't be *too* famous - they recently launched FriendSpace at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra... :P

Chanel store opens @ Westfield Bondi Junction

If it wasn't already my favourite Westfield... it is now! *Heart* WBJ

Beth Ditto

Beth Ditto [of the band Gossip and friend of Karl & Miss Moss] has launched a plus-size clothing range available at Evans in the UK. She was recently on the JJJ breakfast show, and is genuinely funny. Very American though, blergh. [How many, like, times can you say, like, "like" in one like sentence before the sentence like fails to make, like, sense? Totally.]

Rant over, I still love "Heavy Cross" by the Gossip

Draping at Balenciaga

Roland Mouret Fall 09/10

Really like these shoes @ RM Fall 2009/2010. Also liking the cut of the jacket. Judgement reserved on the snakeskin tights...

Drinking during the daytime

National Portrait Gallery

Had lunch with a friend @ the National Portrait Gallery today before a talk at the NGA. Would definitely recommend lunch @ the NPG - make sure you sit outside, in the sun. Double thumbs up to the Moroccan vegetable cous cous salad. Was almost "not cold" in Canberra today - reminiscent of Floriade weather. With winter more than halfway over (being July 15) and winter solstice passed - things are looking up!

PS If you haven't seen Vanity Fair - get thee to the NPG ASAP!

Snaps

Love this. I wonder if The Sartorialist would find it funny? Surely the mark of a good street blogger is the ability to laugh a one's self?

Alice Burdeu II

The girl continues to grow on me. Alice has just shot the most recent Mimco campaign. Having recently walked for D&G, LuellaChristian Lacroix and Marc Jacobs, I'm sure Mimco were very happy to get her. More Alice photos available here. PS Is that an Ikea table I spy? :P

Why, hello Hermione

Starting to see what all the fuss is about...

Perry Street, West Village

I've finally booked New York accommodation for October/November.
Whilst the place looks gorgeous (although I'm not 100% sold on that animal-skin looking rug) its the location I'm most excited about. Its on Perry Street in the West Village in New York... which just happens to be the street on which Carrie's apartment is located! Having gotten my photo taken in front of her place last time (Sex and the City tour anyone?) its one of the most beautiful streets in New York City. My apartment  is also 400ft from Magnolia Bakery, on the same street as Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman's apartment building and one street over from Sarah Jessica Parker's place.

I've fallen into a bad habit of logging onto Google Maps and calculating the walking distance from my apartment to various [important] landmarks. It appears I'm within 20 minutes walk of Ksubi [yay Aussies], Marc Jacobs [OK about 5 Marc Jacobs stores including Little Marc Jacobs - so cute!], Mulberry, Macys, Sephora, Kiehls, NYU, Christian Dior, Kate Spade, American Apparel, Chanel [who knew they had a SOHO boutique?], Tasti-D-Lite, Bed Bath & Beyond, Prada and the High Line. I wonder how many units I could have billed if I had never been accepted into the New York marathon and instead stayed put...let's not do the calculation please.

Stay tuned for the list of New York movies I'm compiling...

Blogging about blogs

How postmodern is that?!

Incidentally... these are worth checking out...

Garance Dore, the Unidentified Fashion Object

This photo was recently posted on Garance Dore's blog. I'm very interested in finding out who those shoes are by... they look a little bit like those at Balmain but the buckles just aren't quite right.

I absolutely love Garance's sense of humour... For example:
I’m always wondering how I can get dressed in the morning to go from a professional meeting to a meeting with my therapist, from there to a shoot, to a meeting with my bike, and then a meeting at a café. And then on top of that, since my days are so long, they’re known to become nights before they’re finished. By the end of it, I’m an unidentified fashion object.

Canoeing

I'm sure ocean canoeing at sunset could be very enjoyable. Unfortunately I'm be paranoid of getting eaten by sharks.  Or very angry jellyfish.

One of my favourite things to do

Is nothing at all.
Its lucky really, because that's about all I did at Port Macquarie

Interestingly, when coming to Port Mac as a child I never understood why my Mum & Dad were so hell bent on doing nothing. I found it insanely boring, as most children do. I wonder if there is a certain day, a certain moment during which you stop wanting to do more, and start wanting to do less. At what age would that be? 18? At schoolies I remember a fair bit of relaxing. But I also remember going bike riding and fishing - and not because I particularly enjoyed either.

Perhaps that moment is when starting full time employment? ;)
