The Divine Miss M

I'm talking Kate Moss, not Madonna sweetheart.
Kate has recently released her 9th (yep 9th) collection of Topshop in the UK.

Unfortunately (and obviously?) it isn't available in Australia. I've been quite disappointed at the "Designers for Target" range lately. The Jenny Kee homewares were just scary and the less I see of Napoleon Perdis the better. Such a pity when the Stella McC and Josh Goot collections were so promising (and caused so many stampedes...)

There was once an old woman who live in her shoes

To quote Carrie Bradshaw... "I will literally be the old woman who lived in her shoes"

I'm not sure I'd ever pay $US700 for a pair of shoes [never say never...] but these Manolos are very pretty.

Much prettier than the rather boring shopfront of [the only] Blahnik store in New York. Discreet.

Favourite-est Vogue cover

Admittedly, I'd heard all the hype about Gemma Ward before ever seeing a photo of her. My first reaction was somewhat lacklustre.

That said, this girl has grown on me, and this Vogue cover ranks way up there. Love the dress, hair and *those eyes*.

Whoever said aliens can't be breathtakingly beautiful?

30 day "GO VEG" challenge

I've decided to take the 30-day "Go Veg" challenge and find out how hard it is to be vegetarian. I have three things working in my favour... 1) My new found love of marinated feta 2) Zero impact on my various addictions (morning caramel latte, 3:30pm crunchie, late night glass of white) and 3) I'm cheating a little and allowing seafood. That said, I'm quite happy for someone to argue this point.
[Insert gratuitous picture of Jared Leto, "sexiest vegetarian alive"]
Apparently vegos and vegans (can't see that happening) live 6-10 years longer than meat eaters. Imagine how many crunchie bars I could eat in 6-10 years. Everybody wins really.

An Australian girl in Paris

Collette Dinnigan showing at Paris Fashion Week.

A little bit luxurious, a little sensual and [as always] very very pretty.

Lost in Austen

Postmodern, cringe-worthy and frankly quite hilarious...

Even Austen/Firth purists have to appreciate Amanda's polite request for Darcy to remove his shirt and take a dip in the lake. What P&P adaptation would be complete without it? Even Bridget Jones 2 sported Darcy and Cleaver "man-fighting" in a fountain.

About halfway through the second [and final] episode, the writers decided they had quite ruined P&P beyond repair. [And they did a good job -  Jane marries Collins...]  In response, the writers choose to forgo the obvious modernist ending [pairing Lizzy & Darcy, obviously]. Instead, our modern day heroine-with-a-fringe Amanda nabs him.

Unfortunately my FGMD (Fairy God Mother Dearest) had earlier suggested that "Darcy" smacked of Malcolm Turnbull. [A turn-off  if there ever was one...].  I can't see Malcolm in him, but I agree with Amanda, who admits "He's no Colin Firth". Quite true, my friends.

Lost in Austen is available at ABC shops from March 19

Guy Pearce in Poor Boy

Arriving in style - our chauffeured Bentley

Saturday night's entertainment featured Guy Pearce & Abi Tucker in Poor Boy; a play about a 30-something married man who dies and then becomes trapped in a seven-year-old's body.  Yes, it is a musical. Yes, it was long (2 & a half hours). Despite both of these things, I thoroughly enjoyed this moving & emotional family-centred piece at the new MTC theatre. I've dubbed this building  "that honeycomb thing". Check out the cute-but-quaint "pink is for girls, blue is for boys" bathrooms.

As with all MTC plays, I successfully played a game of "Spot the SeaChange actor".

Albany Hotel, South Yarra

I doubt there are many bedheads in the world [if any] which feature Paul Keating's head. Interestingly, this one isn't even in Canberra...

Keating grew up in Blacktown (western Sydney) and was a band manager before entering politics... The Albany Hotel in South Yarra pays homage,  featuring him on bedheads in Room 83. Well worth checking out if you're ever in our Nation's (Fashion) Capital.

Four seasons in one day

Even when youre feeling warmThe temperature could drop away, Like four seasons in one day

Wandering through Fawkner Park, South Yarra
The Crowded House song Four Seasons in One Day was inspired by Melbourne.   With days beginning cold, grey and (almost) wet and ending in silky sunsets, I can understand where Finn was coming from.  But perhaps Melbourne is at its best when just a little-bit-miserable? It only adds to the romance... I took this photo whilst wandering through Fawkner Park, South Yarra.

God save the Queen

Because nothing will save the Governor General.

But at least she gets to live in a gorgeous house.
