“Across the street someone is playing La Vie En Rose. They do it for the tourists but I'm always surprised at how it moves me. It means seeing life through rose colored glasses.
Only in Paris where the light is pink does that song make sense, but I'll have it in my pocket when I get home, and carry it with me where ever I go...”

Farewell dear Kirby
Monday 2nd February 2009 .. the end of an era as Michael Kirby retires from the High Court
[Law students everywhere will miss his easy-to-read-judgments-with-headings...]
True true... the High Court's "interesting-ness" rating has just dropped about a 100 points...
This looks really excellent --- just out today http://www.abc.net.au/rn/lawreport/stories/2009/2480107.htm
He also did another good Law Report interview when he talked about his school days (Fort Street) and university days (Sydney U) and how he through himself int ohis study because he didnt feel as if he fit in (because of his homosexuality)...
Saw him last night in Kingston... on the way to his "Last Dinner"... if only I'd had the guts to so say hello! I suppose there are some perks of living in Canberra...
Great orator - if a bit vain, at times.
ReplyDeleteHis dissents have no doubt influenced us, as youngens, more than a large number of majority landmark judgments.
